Quick version. apreet reads the dates and location field of your calendar events to build a 4-week itinerary. It places the contacts in your address book next to the destinations on that itinerary. When friends use apreet too, we overlay both itineraries and surface the moments your travel paths cross, before either of you takes off.
Step 1: Building your itinerary
apreet uses your calendar to figure out where you'll be. We use the date and the location field of each event. For flights, we determine the airport of departure and arrival from the title/summary/subject and location fields. We do not read the description or notes section. Those are private and we keep it that way. We also do not write to your calendar.
Step 2: Mapping contacts to places
For each contact in your address book, apreet processes the location information (the city). We do not read the notes section of contacts. For any destination on your itinerary, apreet shows you which contacts are nearby, based on the addresses you already have.
Step 3: Overlaying itineraries
If a friend in your address book is also using apreet, we overlay both your itineraries. When your travel plans coincide, same city, same days, both of you see it in advance. You can plan to meet, instead of finding out a week later via LinkedIn.
Step 4: Notifications, on your terms
With your permission, apreet notifies you 3 days before a trip about contacts you might meet, of friends and contacts joining apreet, and of new destinations added to your itinerary. On iOS, with your permission, apreet may also access your current location up to twice a day in the background to surface nearby favorites in real time.
What this is not
apreet does not post to social media. apreet does not broadcast your location publicly. apreet does not write to your calendar or address book. We process your calendar, contact, and location data internally. We do not share it with third parties. (See the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.)
